Discover North Devon

North Devon has such a lot to offer anyone visiting the area for a holiday.  From beaches and walking, to family activities and museums and art galleries.  There is so much to see and do, even if the weather is inclement and it means finding indoors activities.  There is something for everybody, with so much to do you will definitely want to come back to visit again.  The mix of the beautiful countryside and huge expanses of coastline takes your breath away; you will be spoiled with the striking and dramatic scenery.

There is a strong sense of heritage in North Devon, and you will find a heritage centre in Mortehoe displaying all kinds of local information.   We have many famous names associated with the area, many myths, legends and much history.

Over 3,000 hectares of the North Devon landscape, including Braunton Burrows, have recently been recognised by UNESCO as Britain’s first new-style Biosphere Reserve – an area of international importance because of its diversity and abundance of rare plants and continuous human use from ancient times.

This area for Braunton Burrows and the Taw and torridge estuary has been identified for its vulnerability and to help protect this for the future generations.  For bird watchers there could be treats in store as the river Taw is home to Wintering Wildfowl such as Curlew, Redshank, Dunlin, Golden Plover and Brent Geese, you may even see a rare Spoonbill.  Devon is eager to pass on good ‘green’ thinking to all visitors, encouraging recycling and resuing, purchasing local produce, saving of energy and water, and identifying businesses promoting these issues.  At The Grange we ask all visitors to use the recycling facility provided, and save water and energy where it is possible ourselves in the course of business.

With market towns providing an array of food and drink, art and craft, and also history, you will go home feeling you have been somewhere truly special.

The beaches are something North Devon is proud of, with a Blue Flag beach at Woolacombe providing lifeguard cover for the bathers and surfers.  Nearby Croyde, Saunton and Westward Ho are all excellent beaches for watersport enthusiasts who enjoy the powerful Atlantic surf.  The long sandy beaches are ab ideal location for family days out in the sunshine.

With rugged, rocky coves to explore also at nearby Rockham Bay (15 minute walk across the headland from The Grange), and nearby Barricane Beach towards Woolacombe.  Remember to take your bucket!  Hartland Peninsula has wonder cliff top walks and you might even see waterfalls running down the rocky formation of the cliffs.  You will be impressed by the beauty and diversity of the coastline.
